The Griot Collective creates spaces for the integration and development of urban arts. The Griot Collective is a community initiative born in July of 2005, where a group of artists of varied disciplines unified in a joint effort to create positive change both in our communities and society at large.
"Arte de la Calle (art for the streets) International Underground Festival" is a community initiative where artists, both emerging and of ample background, donate their time and efforts to the event. The Griot Collective create community programs and workshops, and coordinate a massive festival every year where artists can share ideas and cooperate in the spirit of infusing consciousness into our environment.
Griots: Arte de la Calle, Arte con Conciencia (Art from the Street, Art with Conscience) is a project that seeks to create the integration, inclusion and development of urban arts and the diverse modern manifestations of community arts.
It works to continue encouraging ideas of community pride and identity as well as focusing on resp0nsibility through generating interest in our society and communities. This is also a space of exchange for local and international artists, so we open an invitation to all who wish to join us in our events and activities.
This first edition of the Atlantic Basin Project has been made possible by the efforts of members of the Independent Artists Cooperative and its in house collective Rock Can Roll Independent and through the generous support of the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council.
